Trump Tears Into Ron DeSantis Amid 2024 Talk, Then Attacks Virginia GOP Gov. Glenn Youngkin

Former President Donald Trump is lashing out at Republican governors who may challenge him for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024, Politico reports.

Trump, who was widely criticized by Republicans after some of his candidates lost winnable races on Tuesday, is set to make a “big announcement” from Mar-a-Lago on Monday.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, meanwhile, has received widespread praise on the right after winning reelection by nearly 20 points.

Trump lashed out at DeSantis on Truth Social, calling him “Ron DeSantimonious” and claiming that he was responsible for getting DeSantis elected in the first place.

DeSantis is “an average REPUBLICAN Governor with great Public Relations, who didn’t have to close up his state, but did, unlike other Republican Governors,” Trump wrote, referring to DeSantis’ Covid response.

Trump griped about DeSantis hinting at a potential 2024 bid.

“He says, ‘I’m only focused on the Governor’s race, I’m not looking into the future.’ Well, in terms of loyalty and class, that’s really not the right answer,” Trump wrote.

DeSantis feud breaks open:

The statement marked a public escalation of a growing feud between the two Republicans.

“I think that Ron is very clearly living rent free in the former president’s head,” former DeSantis adviser Stephen Lawson told Politico. “Ron has not said a single word and they think smartly that Tuesday’s huge win allows him to just keep talking about his record without having to acknowledge Trump.”

“It’s 1,000 percent the correct move,” he added. “Trump just keeps throwing boomerangs.”

Youngkin, too:

Trump also lashed out at Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin, who has also been discussed as a potential 2024 candidate.

"Young Kin (now that’s an interesting take. Sounds Chinese, doesn’t it?) in Virginia couldn’t have won without me," Trump said on Truth Social. "I Endorsed him, did a very big Trump Rally for him telephonically, got MAGA to Vote for him - or he couldn’t have come close to winning."

"But he knows that, and admits it," he added. "Besides, having a hard time with the Dems in Virginia - But he’ll get it done!"
