Trump Spokesperson Cites WW2 Internment Camps ‘Precedent’ For Muslim Plans

I’m all for securing our homeland as much as the next guy, but it’s starting to sound a little World War 3 up in here.

Wednesday night on Kelly File, Spokesperson for the pro-Trump Great America PAC and former NAVY Seal Carl Higbie dropped the bomb. In an interview with Megyn Kelly, Higbie said that Trump’s plans for a Muslim registry in the United States is legal, and would hold “constitutional muster,” adding “We have done it with Iran back a while ago. We did it during World War 2 with the Japanese.”

Seemingly startled by the look on her face, Kelly interrupted with “Come on. You’re not proposing that  we go back to the days of internment camps, I hope... you know better than to suggest that. That’s the type of thing that gets people scared Carl.” Higbie replied by saying “I’m just saying there is precedence for it, and I’m not saying that I agree with it, but in this case,” Kelly cut him off, and sternly said:

“You can’t be citing Japanese internment camps as precedent for anything the President-elect is going to do.”

With a smirk on his face (probably realizing that this hot take would end up all over the internet within hours), Carl closed by saying “Look, the President needs to protect America first, and if that means having people protected that are not under our Constitution have some sort of registry, until we can identify the true threat and where it’s coming from, I support it.”

Now to be fair, Carl Higbie didn’t exactly use the words ‘Japanese internment camp’, Megyn Kelly did. He did, however, cite the registration of Japanese Americans during World War 2 as a precedent for Donald Trump’s Muslim registry plan- and guess what that ultimately produced in the 1940’s? Japanese internment camps. For those of you who have seen the classic film Menace II Society, I have one thing to say to Carl right now: “You done fucked up, you know that don’t you? You know you fucked up.”

In a follow-up interview last night, Kelly allowed Higbie to clear up his statements, and he did by saying “You put words out there Megyn, and let’s be honest, the media is happy to run with them.” He also said that he was attempting to explain that Jimmy Carter banned immigration from Iran in the 1970’s, a dangerous nation to the US, which may have harbored potential terrorists at the time. He continued with “I’ll tell you what, I think the left-wing media took this by the horns because they’re not a fan of Donald Trump, and this is exactly why he ran.”

Hassan Shilby, the Chief Executive Director of the Florida branch of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), also joined the show. This ‘generic ‘80’s movie villain #2’ look-a-like has been covered by the media as well in recent history, writing some equally deplorable stuff:

On Kelly File, Shilby said, “I don’t think there should be any heightened scrutiny [for screening Muslim immigrants] based on peoples’ religion.” He claimed that while he believes immigrants coming to America should be screened thoroughly, he believes that targeting Muslim-based nations alone is not what America is about, and is unfair.

We don’t know what the new immigration policy will entail exactly, but we can get a pretty good idea based on adviser involvement and what’s already been mentioned. One of Donald Trump’s reported advisers on immigration, Kris Kobach, assisted in designing the National Security Entry-Exit Registration System (NEERS), introduced after the 9/11 attacks. Under this system, immigrants from nations deemed as “higher risk” would undergo interrogation and fingerprinting upon entry to the US. It was scrapped in 2011, after criticism and outcry from civil rights groups that it unfairly targeted immigrants from Muslim countries.

Now I’m not a member of the Islamic faith, so I can’t imagine how Muslims are feeling right now. It’s not often that the ‘Leader of the Free World’ openly admits to working on a plan that will target your religion or the nation you originally hail from. Surely there are plenty of good-willed human beings from “hot bed nations” that want the same things that westerners do: basic freedoms, security, and prosperity for their families and loved ones. With that being said, there comes a point in time when you have to call a spade, a spade – especially when it pertains to the national security of the United States.

I’m certainly not going to make a claim that suggests most acts of terrorism are committed by people of the Islamic faith, because it simply isn’t true. This is especially true in the US, where school shootings are far more common than terrorist attacks perpetrated by Muslims. While acts of Islamic terrorism in the US aren’t particularly high, we don’t currently allow many immigrants from Islam-majority nations to come here. Perhaps if we went the way of Angela Merkel, this would change.

In our last article, we went over some shocking statistics in the EU. Angela Merkel, the current Chancellor of Germany, promoted and passed an open-door immigrant policy – one which allowed over 1.1 million immigrants into Germany in 2015 alone. This has had horrible effects on Germany, where a recent police report claimed 69,000 crimes were committed by migrants in the first quarter of 2016. Most of these migrants came from Syria, a Muslim-majority nation that is currently engaged in a civil war. Does that sound “hot bed” enough for you? Acts of terrorism in the EU have escalated since this policy was put into place, and that trend hasn’t slowed down in 2016.

Listen, folks- the bottom line is that if we’re going to begin allowing waves of immigrants into the United States (from nations that are known supporters of Islamic terrorist activity), these people have to be vetted. Their histories have to be investigated, and the United States has to use all of its power to ensure that migrants will not pose a potential threat to American citizens. I’m all for religious freedom, and don’t care what brand of faith anyone subscribes to – but if you’re entering my country, I want the government to clear your name before you wander my streets.

Between 9/11 and the 2016 crime/terrorism statistics throughout Europe, Americans have a right to be concerned at the prospect of allowing in non-vetted immigrants from Muslim-majority countries. If I happen to walk by an insane-looking man in the street yelling “Jesus is the way! You’re all going to Hell,” I’m not going to give it a second thought. If I pass by a wild-eyed person on the block screaming “ALLAHU AKBAR” however, you’d better believe that I will be hauling my ass out of there.
