President Donald Trump accused Fox News of “fake news” after the network’s polling showed him losing badly to a number of potential Democratic challengers in 2020.
Trump directed his tweet at Fox anchor Bret Baier, who reported that Fox News polling showed Vice President Joe Biden leading Trump in a number of key battleground states.
“Fox News polls are always bad for me,” he claimed. “They were against Crooked Hillary also. Something weird going on at Fox. Our polls show us leading in all 17 Swing States.”
Trump’s polling actually shows him losing:
Trump’s Twitter tantrum came after he fired several pollsters, including a firm founded by adviser Kellyanne Conway, after internal poll numbers showing him losing badly to Biden in states like Wisconsin and Pennsylvania were leaked to the media.
Trump’s internal numbers showed him losing 55-39 in Pennsylvania, 51-41 in Wisconsin, and by seven points in Florida.
“They were fake polls that were released by somebody that is — it’s ridiculous,” Trump said last week when the reports first broke. “They’re giving out phony polls. These are polls that we have, that nobody saw. We do very little polling because I’m not a huge believer in polling… But we have some internal polling — very little — and it’s unbelievably strong. The strongest I’ve ever been is exactly today.”
New Fox News polling shows Trump losing to 5 Dems:
The Fox News poll showed Trump trailing Biden by 10 points nationally but Biden is far from the only Democrat trouncing Trump in early surveys.
The Fox News poll showed Bernie Sanders beating Trump by 9, Elizabeth Warren leading Trump by 2, and Pete Buttigieg and Kamala Harris holding a single-point lead over the president.
The Fox News poll also showed that 53 percent of the country disapproves of the job Trump is doing as president while just 45 percent approve.
