Someone on the Inside Tipped Off the FBI About Trump Documents At Mar-a-Lago: Reports

The FBI had an inside source at Mar-a-Lago before its raid on Monday, according to The Wall Street Journal and Newsweek.

A person “familiar with the stored papers” told investigators two months earlier that Trump was still holding on to classified documents at Mar-a-Lago.

The raid was “based largely on information from an FBI confidential human source” that was able to point the FBI to the location of the documents and which ones were classified.

The WSJ report added that investigators were already suspicious that Trump did not turn over all of the classified documents he took from the White House after the National Archives seized 15 boxes of administration materials earlier this year.

Trump grows paranoid:

Trump is worried that he has a “rat” in his orbit and is focused on rooting out the “mole,” according to Rolling Stone.

Trump has wondered whether his phones are being tapped.

"He has asked me and others, 'Do you think our phones are tapped?' Given the sheer volume of investigations going on into the [former] president, I do not think he's assuming anything is outside the realm of possibility," a source close to Trump told Rolling Stone. "He's talked about this seriously [in the past few months], but I know of one time when he made a joke that was something like, 'Be careful what you say on the phone!'"

Another source said that Trump has wondered aloud whether any Republicans visiting his golf resorts were “wearing a wire.”

Trump team points fingers:

Trump’s team has been actively speculating about who the mole might be and pointing fingers at each other.

"I'm getting a lot of messages saying [things like], 'This guy must be the informant,' and others…calling for the [former] president to start doing phone-checks of his staff," a Trump adviser told Rolling Stone. "To be honest, a lot of it feels like people trying to screw over the ones they don't like [in Trumpworld.]"
