Once again, Hillary Clinton has failed to do the halfway decent thing and take accountability for her own losses. In the latest new excerpts from her upcoming memoir, titled ‘What Happened,’ she blames Bernie Sanders for her failure to win the 2016 Presidential election, claiming that his campaigning tactics and supporters “paved the way” to a Trump victory, as reported by USA Today.
The excerpts read as follows:
She can’t be serious. Unfortunately, she is. So, Sanders’ attacks supposedly caused lasting damages for Clinton’s campaign. Welcome to politics! Attacks are an inherent part of the political territory. Clinton knows this. She’s been in politics for longer than most people have been alive. She has launched attacks on other politicians herself. If Sanders’ attacks truly inflicted the insurmountable damage Clinton alleges, perhaps that speaks to weakness on her end, not unfairness on Sanders’ end.
Even the most outspoken critic of Sanders can recognize that he is not responsible for Clinton’s failure to win the election. Sanders did not “pave the way” for a Trump victory. He hated Trump and did everything in his power to keep him from winning the election, even going as far to publicly endorse Clinton, despite her direct contrast with values he claimed to uphold.
Sadly, it appears as though Clinton may never wake up to the reality that her election loss was engendered by no one other than herself. First and foremost, Clinton was one of the most unliked and untrustworthy candidates in American history. Over her decades in politics, Clinton gained infamy for being a dishonest charlatan who was constantly engulfed in scandal. Perhaps Clinton would have had a better chance at winning the election had she not arrogantly and erroneously believed the Oval Office was owed to her.
During Clinton’s campaign, she declared that Trump supporters were a “basket of deplorables.” This coined phrase highlighted Clinton’s utter and unadulterated contempt for those who do not support her or share her views on policy issues. How did Clinton expect people to vote when she lumped nearly half of the nation into one ugly category? Sometimes our words come back to haunt us.
Furthermore, Clinton’s greed and collusion with the DNC was ironically her undoing. She was so desperate to one up Sanders that she ended up winning the primaries, but losing the election. In screwing over Sanders, Clinton shed light on the massive corruption existing within the political establishments on both sides of the aisle. Likewise, she alienated and enraged many Sanders supporters who either voted for Trump or didn’t vote at all on Election Day- supporters who could have voted for her.
Clinton claimed that Sanders’ attacks caused lasting damage to her campaign, but honestly, there’s nothing Sanders could have said or done that was more damaging to Clinton’s campaign than her own conduct. Clinton deleted 33,000 emails, allowed four heroic men to die in Benghazi, defended Thomas Alfred Taylor who raped [then 12-year-old] Kathy Shelton, laughed about her knowledge of his guilt years later, and is responsible for a litany of other offenses.
At some point, our chickens come home to roost. In Clinton’s case, this took the form of losing an election that many people believed she would win. Nearly one year has passed since the election and Clinton still lacks an understanding of ‘What Happened.’ She continues to behave like a petulant child. Clinton blames Republicans, Democrats, Obama, Comey, the FBI, Facebook, Trump, and now Sanders for her loss. It’s almost as though her inability to assume responsibility for her actions is pathological. Does Clinton ever look in the mirror and think “maybe if I hadn’t done xyz, I would be President?”
Past scandals and corruption aside, Clinton’s policies were horrific. Like the vast majority of liberal Democrats, her reform proposals were rooted in identity politics, collectivism, and the establishment, all of which Americans are sick and tired of. Clinton was incredibly rehearsed, unbelievably disingenuous, even admitting to her Wall Street allies that she promoted one position in public, while secretly holding a different position in private. Then, when Trump called her out on it during the debate, she tried to compare herself to Abraham Lincoln.
Hillary Rodham Clinton was an utterly unelectable candidate. The only reason her party nominated her was because she was a woman with experience working in government. No matter how many people Clinton blames for her downfall, no matter how many times she points the finger at the FBI, Trump, or Sanders, her failure to become President is because of her track record, her actions, and her choices.
The truth of the matter is that Clinton cheated Sanders out of a fair primary election and it backfired on her in a plethora of ways she never saw coming. Sanders did not “pave the way” to a Trump victory; Clinton did that all on her own. For the first time in her life, she is experiencing what is known as karma.
