House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was seen maskless in a hair salon on Monday despite local ordinances requiring salons to stay closed amid the coronavirus pandemic, Fox News reports.
Surveillance footage shows Pelosi at the ESalonSF in San Francisco with her hair wet and without a mask.
A stylist is seen following her in the video while wearing a face mask.
Salon owner Erica Kious shared the video with Fox News, explaining that an independent stylist who rents a chair at the salon booked the appointment.
“I was like, are you kidding me right now? Do I let this happen? What do I do?” Kious said. “It was a slap in the face that she went in, you know, that she feels that she can just go and get her stuff done while no one else can go in, and I can’t work.”
“We’re supposed to look up to this woman, right?” she added. “It is just disturbing.”
Pelosi defends:
“The Speaker always wears a mask and complies with local COVID requirements. This business offered for the Speaker to come in on Monday and told her they were allowed by the city to have one customer at a time in the business. The Speaker complied with the rules as presented to her by this establishment,” Pelosi spokesman Drew Hammill said in a statement.
Kious pushed back, telling Fox that Pelosi received a wash and blow out but “you’re not supposed to blow dry hair” according to local coronavirus restrictions.
Trump gloats:
"Crazy Nancy Pelosi is being decimated for having a beauty parlor opened, when all others are closed, and for not wearing a Mask - despite constantly lecturing everyone else,” President Donald Trump tweeted on Wednesday. “We will almost certainly take back the House, and send Nancy packing!"
Kious said she shared the video because of the hardships businesses in San Franscisco have faced amid the shutdown.
“This is for everybody,” she said. “I am sharing this because of what everyone in my industry, and my city, what every small business is going through right now.”
