Fox News host Sean Hannity, who cheered on President Trump as he demanded his 2016 opponent Hillary Clinton be “locked up,” suddenly decided it was “despicable” to do so after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said she wants to see Trump in prison.
Hannity, who appeared at numerous Trump rallies filled with “lock her up” chants, complained about a report that Pelosi told Democratic leaders in a closed-door meeting: “I don’t want to see him impeached; I want to see him in prison.”
“Speaker Pelosi now apparently telling senior Democrats that she’d like to see Trump behind bars. Based on no actual crimes, she wants a political opponent locked up in prison?” Hannity complained on his show Thursday. “That happens in banana republics—beyond despicable behavior. And by the way, they would literally turn, in many ways, the USA into a country we no longer recognize.”
Yes, what kind of person would call for political opponents to be locked up?
Oh, right.
But who else would call for political opponents to be locked up?
Hannity's hypocrisy on Trump aside, he himself repeatedly said Clinton should be jailed.
“Based on what you know, do you think Hillary Clinton should go to jail over the server scandal?” he asked on his show during the 2016 campaign.
“Clinton still refuses to accept responsibility for what she’s done, and instead she’s tried numerous times to just brush it aside," he said in the summer of 2016. “Isn’t the mishandling alone... isn’t that in and of itself a crime?”
“Hillary Clinton is campaigning to be the next president. She should be the one in jail," Hannity said days before the election.
“Why isn’t Hillary in jail, Jay?” he asked Trump attorney Jay Sekulow in 2017, after Bob Mueller's appointment.
