A GoFundMe campaign launched by a Florida Air Force veteran has raised more than $4 million to fund President Donald Trump’s proposed border wall in four days.
Brian Kolfage, a 37-year-old Air Force vet and triple amputee who won a Purple Heart while serving in Iraq, is aiming to raise $1 billion for the wall through the crowdfunding campaign. The proposed border wall is estimated to cost up to $67 billion.
The campaign took off after Trump abandoned his demand for Congress to include $5 billion in wall funding in a bill to avert a government shutdown this week.
Kolfage wrote that it was possible for supporters to pay for Trump’s wall by citing a 2012 Washington Monument restoration project that sought donations from the private sector.
“Like a majority of those American citizens who voted to elect President Donald J Trump, we voted for him to Make America Great Again. President Trump’s main campaign promise was to BUILD THE WALL. And as he’s followed through on just about every promise so far, this wall project needs to be completed still,” Kolfage wrote.
“If the 63 million people who voted for Trump each pledge $80, we can build the wall,” he added. “That equates to roughly 5Billion Dollars, even if we get half, that's half the wall. We can do this.”
The $5 billion estimate that Trump had discussed in recent weeks would have funded a part of the wall, but not the entire wall.
Kolfage says campaign is legit:
“There’s always a way to do something. People who say you can’t would never survive living in my life. I keep hearing, ‘you can’t,’ or ‘It’s not even legal,’ but those are the people who will never step up to try to make a difference. Anything is possible,” Kolfage told The Washington Post.
He explained that he is a Trump supporter because he believes that “too many Americans have been murdered by illegal aliens and too many illegals are taking advantage of the United States taxpayers with no means of every contributing to our society.”
Studies have shown that undocumented immigrants commit less violent crime than native-born American citizens. Studies have also shown that undocumented immigrants also pay tens of billions in taxes each year, often paying for benefits they are not even entitled to.
Conservatives rage at Trump backing off wall demand:
Conservative pundit Ann Coulter told The Daily Caller that Trump’s presidency was a “joke” without the wall.
“Why would you [vote for him again]?” she said. “To make sure, I don’t know, Ivanka [Trump] and Jared [Kushner] can make money? That seems to be the main point of the presidency at this point.”
“They’re about to have a country where no Republican will ever be elected president again,” she added. “Trump will just have been a joke presidency who scammed the American people, amused the populists for a while, but he’ll have no legacy whatsoever."
“Trump gets nothing and the Democrats get everything, including control of the House,” conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh complained on Fox News Wednesday.
