Fox News host Steve Doocy called out House Republicans for attacking the FBI after its raid on President Donald Trump’s home on Thursday, Insider reports.
Republicans have responded to the raid by demonizing the FBI and accusing it of political persecution. Some Trump allies have gone as far as demanding that Congress “defund the FBI,” even though the agency would have been required to show significant evidence that a crime likely occurred to get a judge to sign off on the search warrant.
The attacks come after years of Republicans touting themselves as the pro-police party while accusing Democrats of being the party of “defund the police” activists.”
Scalise called out:
"I'm just curious, whatever happened to the Republican Party backing the blue? And, in particular, the [35,000] members of law enforcement, federal law enforcement, at the FBI?" Fox News host Steve Doocy asked Rep. Steve Scalise, the No. 2 Republican in the House.
"Frankly, we are very strong supporters of law enforcement, and it concerns everybody if you see some agents go rogue," Scalise said. "If you see an agent that doesn't have the right checks and balances at the top. This is coming from the top."
Scalise then suggested that the FBI agents in the raid went “rogue.”
"Who went rogue, Steve? Who went rogue?” Doocy responded. “They were following a search warrant!"
Stefanik, too:
Doocy also called out Rep. Elise Stefanik, the No. 3 Republican in the House, over her attacks on the FBI Friday.
“This is Joe Biden’s Department of Justice and FBI targeting his most likely presidential opponent in 2024,” Stefanik said. “It is not news to the American people that President Trump is very likely to run for president.”
“This was incredibly an overreach. It’s un-American,” she argued, calling the raid “blatant politicization.”
“Well, of course, the FBI director was appointed by Donald Trump,” Doocy noted.
