Oh God, transgenders. Here we go.
We can argue all day over whether or not you're really the sex you were born with. But the fact remains the medical world calls this issue "gender dysphoria." It is a psychological condition where a person experiences an incongruence between their actual gender and how they feel.
Like it or not, we are born male and female (aside from those lucky few hermaphrodites out there). If you don't feel like you are the right gender, it is by and large inside your head. That doesn't belittle what you're experiencing; it just means you have some stuff to sort out.
So what's the solution?
More than likely you need to undergo serious counseling and confrontation of deep issues. But what about gender reassignment, a long process of subjecting yourself to powerful drugs and hormones, so you'll look and feel more like the gender you prefer, culminating in major surgery to remove genitals?
That's a big step, my friend. Big with a capital B. Perhaps that's not the best solution. But you're an adult, right; you can do whatever you want with your privates. If that's the solution you feel is best, I have no intention of stopping you, regardless of what I believe.
But does that apply to children? Should parents and doctors allow children- some of whom are prepubescent (all minors)- to undergo hormone treatments and surgery? Please keep in mind that these are children. You remember what it was like being a kid, right? You were stupid. You did stupid things. You got into trouble, played hooky from school, maybe dropped a few firecrackers down the toilet.
You were the last person responsible enough to decide if you were born the wrong gender.
The reason we are even having this conversation is that there are doctors who are less than ethical. They would love to exploit confused people- regardless of age- so they can undergo expensive therapy, whether they needed it or not. Not to mention political forces that want you to believe that gender is fluid, in order to further their own agenda. Agendas that have little to do with the good of people, but the expansion of their own power in government.
The American College of Pediatricians released a statement discussing the problem of gender dysphoria in children.
Currently there is a vigorous, albeit suppressed, debate among physicians, therapists, and academics regarding what is fast becoming the new treatment standard for GD in children. This new paradigm is rooted in the assumption that GD is innate, and involves pubertal suppression with gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) agonists followed by the use of cross-sex hormones—a combination that results in the sterility of minors. A review of the current literature suggests that this protocol is founded upon an unscientific gender ideology, lacks an evidence base, and violates the long-standing ethical principle of “First do no harm.” (via ACP)
Our very basic definitions of gender are being usurped not by actual, provable science, but by political and cultural forces who want to undermine our society.
They did a good job of destroying the American family in the 60's and 70's by normalizing divorce and sexual promiscuity. They did a good job of destroying sexual identity in the 80's and 90's by vilifying anyone that disagreed with the nuances of homosexuality. Now they want to completely destroy our understanding of human biology by making us believe we can change our gender. Or the further assumptions, by some, that there are more than two genders.
This trend is particularly nefarious when it comes to children. Adults can do whatever the hell they want to their bodies. You want to pump yourself full of estrogen or testosterone? Be my guest. Want to surgically remove your penis or your breasts? Do it, just don't expect my taxes to pay for it.
But children are far too young and uninformed to make those decisions. They are still learning about life and themselves. How can any well-meaning doctor or parent think that a child should be subjected to hormone injections and even surgery before they are old enough to vote, work a full-time job, or decide what to do with their lives?
We don't let people under the age of 16 drive a car, yet it's okay to pump them full of drugs to "change their gender?”
What the hell is wrong with this country?
Then, of course, it creates other kinds of problems, problems that quite frankly I don't care about, but we need to discuss them, because that's how messed up our society it.
Mack Beggs had just won a state wrestling title Saturday in a category he didn't want to be in...
Beggs completed an undefeated season by winning a controversial title in an event clouded by criticism from those who believe the testosterone he's taking as he transitions from female to male created an unfair advantage...
Beggs, who reached the state tournament after two opponents forfeited, was dogged throughout the event by questions about whether his testosterone treatments made him too strong to wrestle fairly against girls. (via Yahoo News).
Uh, yeah, of course the testosterone made Mack too strong to compete fairly against other girls. We don't let professional athletes use steroids and testosterone when they're competing. Why should a girl trying to become a boy be allowed to do so?
You can argue it is the antiquated policy that forced Mack to compete with girls because her birth certificate states she was born a girl. Because she is a girl. She is an underage child taking hormones while competing in a wrestling tournament.
Transgender or not, that gives her an unfair advantage. Wrestling against boys, who knows? Maybe she would have been able to compete, or maybe real boys would have destroyed her. Just because she's taking testosterone doesn't mean she'll be strong enough to compete with male wrestlers. But regardless, it would give her an advantage.
But this is all a moot point. Allowing children- egged on by their liberal, pro-transgender parents- to undergo hormone treatments to correct a condition many professionals claim does not warrant treatment, is unethical. The APC even says it works itself out in most children: "When this occurs in the pre-pubertal child, GD resolves in the vast majority of patients by late adolescence."
Mack is a confused young person. Indulging in her/his confusion over sex won't help her attain a fulfilling life; it will only further harm her.
Mack and every other young person suffering gender dysphoria need real help and counseling, not hormone injections. But that is our liberal society in a nutshell. We don't care about providing real solutions to people's problems, just a quick fix to make them feel happy in the short term. But in the long term, they suffer bigly.
It's no different than when liberals offer Welfare to the unemployed, rather than creating a better environment for jobs. It's much easier to live a substandard life through government handouts than to sweat and toil to achieve better things. It's no different than allowing the toxic immigration situation to persist because it helps shady businesses, rather than get tough and deport aliens and build secure borders.
Can't see the similarities? Because you're believing a confused and distorted view, propagated by the liberal media. People suffering from gender dysphoria don't need surgery, they don't need hormones, they don't need doctors to exploit their problems in order to feel better.
They need to go through the hard work of sorting out their problems and feelings and getting better the right way. Perhaps at the end of it all, they'll still want the surgery. Perhaps not. But our society doesn't want them to figure that out. They just want the easy fix.
The real solution would require effort on the part of the patients, doctors, and society. And they'd rather not do that.
