Right-wing conspiracy theorist Alex Jones said Wednesday that he is backing Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to be the next president, The Hill reports.
Jones, who supported former President Donald Trump in his two elections, said he only supported him “to keep him in office because of the nightmare scenario if Hillary or Biden got in.”
"I've been persecuted like nothing in my life for supporting [Trump], and that made me kind of pigheadedly support him a few years ago even though I disagreed with his Warp Speed," Jones said. "But that said, I am supporting DeSantis. DeSantis is just gone from being awesome to being unbelievably good ... He's getting red-pilled more and more each day ... I'm a DeSantis guy."
"What America and the world absolutely must have is leaders like Ron DeSantis to come out against these poison shots," he continued. "DeSantis is just over the top with what he's doing, this is absolutely presidential material. This is what Trump should be like."
"We have someone that is better than Trump," he added. "Way better than Trump."
Ingraham too?:
Jones' comments came days after Fox News host Laura Ingraham, another avid Trump booster, suggested that voters may be ready to move on from Trump.
“People conflate Trump with people’s overall sense of happiness in the country. Donald Trump’s been a friend of mine for 25 years, and I’m always very open about this on my show. But, you know we’ll see whether that’s what the country wants,” Ingraham said in an interview this week. “The country I think is so exhausted. They’re exhausted by the battle, the constant battle, that they may believe that, well, maybe it’s time to turn the page if we can get someone who has all Trump’s policies, who’s not Trump.”
DeSantis rising:
A recent University of North Florida poll found DeSantis edging out Trump among Republican primary voters in the Sunshine State.
The survey showed DeSantis narrowly leading Trump 47-45 in their home state.
The poll also found that DeSantis is expected to easily win re-election.
