In an attempt to salvage her husband’s crippling public image, Melania Trump, wife of Republican presidential nominee and target of public ridicule Donald Trump, attempted to perform damage control on national television. On Monday, October 17, 2016, Melania sat with CNN’s Anderson Cooper to defend her husband’s embarrassing antics that have received global attention, and resulted in public backlash against the presidential candidate.
Many situations were discussed throughout the one-on-one televised interview, including the infamous leaked tape of Donald having a very lewd conversation with former Access Hollywood reporter Billy Bush. After the tape’s release, both political parties publicized their outrage and disgust, costing Donald Trump critical support from prominent Republican figures. As well, Billy Bush has officially lost his NCB hosting gig and has potentially ruined his career.
As Melania told Anderson, the man who was caught discussing sexually groping women was not the one she married. She told Anderson Cooper that her husband is a “supporter of women, and a supporter of everybody.” She also believes that Billy Bush egged him on to create entertainment for his viewers. When asked about the recent multiple allegations of sexual conduct against Donald Trump, she denied the accuracy of these claims.
Melania also suggested Donald’s conversation with Billy Bush was really “two boys talking,” further proving her husband’s immaturity- a quality you do not want the potential Leader of the Free World to possess.
She also said to Anderson Cooper, which was reported by CNN, "Sometimes I say I have two boys at home. I have my young son and I have my husband.”
Let’s take this moment to ask an important question: Do voters really want a boy to become the next President of the United States of America?
The televised interview was a unique opportunity for the world to learn more about the potential First Lady of the United States. Interestingly, she has been absent from the public eye and the campaign trail since being brutally scrutinized for her speech sounding alarmingly similar to one presented by the current First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama. Although she started her career as a model, she has been intentionally shying away from the spotlight during the duration of the presidential campaign. This includes being absent from social media, a concept her husband should maybe considering practicing if he wants any chance to win the election.
Another question comes to mind after her interview with Anderson Cooper: can anyone blame Melania for distancing herself from the trainwreck Donald Trump has created and executed?
Many wonder if she is purposely separating herself from her husband’s recent shenanigans in case he looses the election. After the recent claims made by various women regarding Donald’s behavior, it would not be a surprise if the couple goes their separate ways post election. For now, Melania remains a critical source of support for the Trump campaign and the Republican Party.
