Fox Condemns Host Lou Dobbs Segment for 'Soros-Occupied State Department' Conspiracy Theory

Fox Business Network condemned a conspiracy theory linked to anti-Semitism that was peddled by a guest on host Lou Dobbs' show.

Chris Farrell of the conservative group Judicial Watch appeared on the show, which was rebroadcast after the synagogue attack in Pittsburgh that killed 11 people, to push the unfounded claim about the migrant caravan headed toward the US-Mexico border.

Farrell alleged that the caravan, which is made up of thousands of refugees fleeing dangerous and poverty-stricken areas, was funded by billionaire Jewish Democratic donor George Soros and claimed he is conspiring with the State Department.

“A lot of these folks also have affiliates who are getting money from the Soros-occupied State Department, and that is of great, great concern,” Farrell told Dobbs. “If we’re going to start cutting money, start cutting money there.”

Dobbs was unfazed during the interview but Fox Business VP Gary Schreier issued a statement saying the network had pulled the episode and clips from future airings.

“We condemn the rhetoric by the guest on ‘Lou Dobbs Tonight,’” he said in the statement.

According to The New York Times, Farrell will no longer appear on the network.

Conservatives reject claims that Soros criticism is “anti-Semitism”:

“AWFUL: I’ve known Chris Farrell for years—he’s the farthest thing from an anti-Semite that you can imagine,” wrote conservative pundit David Reaboi. Shame on Fox News for ratifying the hard-Left’s assertion that criticism of Soros is antisemitism.”

A number of Republicans have cited Soros as a major funder of Democratic efforts on the campaign trail this year.

Critics say Soros vilification is bigoted:

Bill Kristol, the founder of the conservative magazine The Weekly Standard and a “Never Trump” Republican, condemned the rhetoric in an appearance on CNN Sunday.

“Soros-occupied is a play on Zionist Occupied Government,” Kristol explained. “Which is a very familiar anti-Semitic trope. Soros is Jewish, and the right has been obsessed with him for that among other reasons.”

“And this brings it all together. So it’s the Jews, the evil Jews, occupying the U.S. government, and bringing in alien invaders into this country,” he added. “And you don’t have to go that far, unfortunately, into not just right wing websites but even Fox News, as we just saw, to get that kind of narrative.”
