Chris Rock Under Fire For Letting Louis CK Use N-Word in 2011 HBO Video

Comedian Chris Rock came under fire on Twitter over a 2011 HBO clip in which he sits by as Louis CK and Ricky Gervais repeatedly use the n-word.

The clip, from the 2011 special “Talking Funny,” shows Rock declaring Louis CK to be “the blackest white guy I know.”

“And then all the negative things we think about black people, this fucker—” Rock began.

“You’re saying I’m a nigger,” CK chimed in.

Fellow panelist Jerry Seinfeld was seen grimacing while Gervais cracked up with laughter.

“Yes. You are the niggerest fucking white man I have ever --” Rock started.

“I don’t think he could do that,” Seinfeld interjected. “I don’t think he has those qualities.”

“You don’t even understand,” Rock old Seinfeld. “You don’t really know him like that. I work with him.”

“Who says nigger on-stage, we don’t,” Gervais said.

“You just did!” Seinfeld shot back.

Rock under fire instead of Louis and Gervais:

Rock came under fire when the clip resurfaced on Twitter last week.

“I know black folks who are completely comfortable with white people saying the n-word in their presence," wrote Atlantic columnist Jemele Hill. "Have had to tell a few white folks that I’m not that black person. Still it says something the only person who was uncomfortable was Seinfeld.”

“Note how proud Ricky Gervais was of the fact he used the n-word," she continued. "And Louis CK basically said he’s one because black folks ain’t shit. Chris Rock is getting crucified, but those other two deserve massive smoke.”

“It’s quite clear that even if Chris Rock wasn’t born, Gervais and Louis CK were going to be using the n-word,” Hill responded to a comment on Twitter. “Black people never have and never will give white folks permission to call us that. That’s the jig. We get blamed for their use of it like they ever need our approval.”
