Poll: Trump Voters Want Him In Office, Even If Collusion Is True

A new poll conducted by the Democrat-sponsored Public Polling Policy has found that a vast majority of Trump voters would want him to stay in power even if collusion with Russia were proven. This result shows us two thing very clearly; the first being that Trump’s popularity with his base his holding well, and the second that it is not really the president himself that has the support, but rather the base of voters who believe in the Make America Great Again platform.

In the poll, 79% of the people who voted for Donald Trump in 2016 stated that he should remain in office even if collusion with Russia were proven. It is worth noting that at least three-quarters of these voters happen to think the collusion story is “fake news.”

MAGA is the Driving Force

It would appear that voters don’t really mind who is at the helm as long as the platform is being enacted. This coincides with former White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon and his whirlwind tour of America in support of candidates who back the MAGA agenda.

The Republican Party is presently viewed less favorably by the electorate compared with the president. In fact, many in the media are suggesting that in recent days, the GOP has begun their final surrender to President Trump. But it is not the president they are surrendering to; it is the will of the American voter personified in the MAGA platform.

In the heated contest for the Alabama nomination, Luther Strange (who was endorsed by President Trump, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, and the majority of the GOP) lost out to Judge Roy Moore. If it were the president himself that voters were backing, surely Mr. Strange would have won. But no, it was the candidate who openly supported MAGA and was backed up by Steve Bannon and Mr. Brexit himself, Nigel Farage.

What do the Base Support?

There is much speculation (and rather more disinformation) on what the MAGA platform is. The mainstream media suggests it is coded language for white supremacy, but the reality has a far more historic tradition in the United States.

It has been suggested by Dr. Sebastian Gorka (formerly of the White House) that the MAGA platform is fully committed to a Jacksonian Foreign Policy that would seek to limit foreign interventionism but without weakening the U.S. militarily. As the seventh President said: “We shall more certainly preserve peace when it is well understood that we are prepared for war.”

After years of being engaged in wars that have done nothing to stabilize foreign lands nor brought glory or respect to the United States, it would appear that a Jacksonian policy of non-involvement while still being fully prepared is what the American people are looking for.

The Republican Hawks and the Democrat interventionists have made the nation sick and tired of endless conflicts that have no benefit to the lives of ordinary folks. The average American wants to feel safe and secure in the knowledge that they have a world-class military defending them, but also that young lives are not being wasted on foreign soil. And this is what has gripped the heart and soul of the country.

Is the President Relevant?

The president is as popular now as he was when he was elected; virtually ensuring a second term. Despite the aforementioned poll showing a very negative opinion of the president, it is worth considering that only around 30% of respondents identified as Republican, and that many more respondents voted for Hillary Clinton than Donald Trump.

When polls are designed to influence rather than report, they have inherently biased questions built in. For example, question 10 asks: “Putting your personal feelings aside, do you think Donald Trump is mentally stable or mentally unbalanced?” How often do you suppose this question was asked of former President Obama?

The reality is that President Trump is relevant today because he is a vehicle for change that has not been offered before. While many candidates campaign on “the change platform” it rarely is anything other than mild tweaking. There is a creeping dissatisfaction with modern politics that stems from the fact that, in terms of policy, there is little difference between politicians. Donald Trump is clearly different.

But what drove his voters and will continue to drive them in the future (whether President Trump is in office or not) is the MAGA agenda.

Rules for Radicals

Saul Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals has been used by the American left since its writing in 1971, yet what is happening with the MAGA platform follows closely the ideas set out, such as, "Whenever possible, go outside the expertise of the enemy." Steve Bannon is taking on the Hawks in an area they are not used to dealing with; he is forcing them to make the interventionist argument when this is not in the public’s interest. And as long as the president keeps putting America First, he will continue to gain support.
